November 2025 Lab Gathering
We are always seeking motivated and talented individuals to join our team.
Prospective PhD students: if any of the following topics excite you:
Optimization and learning for state estimation and navigation
Spatial perception with learned representations
Distributed autonomy for multi-agent systems
Please apply to Michigan Robotics and reach out to us! Due to the large volume of emails, we might not be able to reply to all inquries in time. Still, we welcome all emails and we read each one carefully.
Postdoctoral candidates: our lab is currently participating in the Michigan Institute for Data & AI in Society (MIDAS) Postdoctoral Research Fellowship programs. If you are interested, please email Prof. Yulun Tian to discuss your research vision and the possible fits for collaboration.
Current MS students at Michigan Robotics: We welcome motivated MS students who are eager to gain hands-on research experience. The best way to get involved is through ROB 590. Our lab maintains a curated list of available ROB 590 projects, typically updated before the start of each semester. If you are passionate about any of the current projects, we encourage you to apply through this link by the due date listed in the project document. Please note that the actual number of positions is not predetermined but depends on project fit and the availability of mentoring and lab resources.
Current ROB 590 projects (WN2026):
Modular Cross-Simulation Robotics Framework for Perception, Mapping, Planning, and Control
Place Recognition and Loop Closure using 3D Gaussian Splatting
Current undergraduate students at UofM: We welcome enthusiastic undergraduate students interested in exploring research in robotics and autonomy. Our lab participates in the Summer Undergraduate Research in Engineering (SURE) program. Current SURE projects can be found on the Michigan Robotics page.
During the academic year, there will also be open opportunities depending on project availability. If you are interested, please apply through this link. We’ll make sure to reach out if there’s a good match with our ongoing work!
